Designer's comments:

I wanted to do something that expressed the theme (Normal is Over-rated) in a simple almost childlike way so I used the interaction between these birdlike characters, their features pared back to almost primary forms, to convey it. 

I didn't just want to highlight the differences between the supposedly ‘normal' & ‘abnormal' traits the characters were expressing but to emphasize that despite their differences there is still a sense of caring & unity amongst them as a whole.
